If you were knocked off your bike and had head/spinal injuries then needed 24 hour care would it be ok for your wife/husband to start a relationship and have kids with another person?

Would you want to be visited by partner while in care and have them drop your step children on the bed with you?

I can control my urges. Its what separates us from the animals.

The subject used to annoy me a bit in the police. Half the youngsters, and some of the old hands, were roaring up each other, and even victims of crime. If you've got so little self discipline you shouldn't be employed there in the first place.

The subject has never arisen, but I think Mrs D is of much the same mind.

As User9609 says.

But if I was the injured party in that state, I'd arrange a single ticket to a Swiss euthanasia clinic.
The thing is you don't have the power of speech. If somebody calls your name they don't know if you're looking because you've picked up a sound or because you're aware. You can't book a trip to Dignitas.

I didn't need 24 hour care after an accident at work, but the prognosis was not good with only 50/50% chance of me walking again, I got a letter from her solicitor while I was still in hospital........by the time I left she was all ready seeing another guy.

I don't think this is one you can answer unless it actually happens to you. These strange sounding scenario's can look wierd from the outside but make sense to the people involved. I used to go out with a girl who could not forgive her father as he had a long term affair whilst her mother was declining/dying of MS. He stayed with her till the end and looked after her. We went on holiday with him and his girlfriend and I got to have some chats with him ( his wife had been deceased for a couple of years at the time). His wife was quite aware of the the affair and he kind of had her blessing. His daughter failed to understand the situation and continued to not forgive. The way he explained it to me it made sense.

My misses knows of my 'desire' if/when it happens. As do my brother and sister.
Yes but ethics come into play here. They get you in the room and start to prepare the lethal injection and you totally change your mind but can't communicate to tell them to stop?

Sweet Jesus that's just evil.

I wouldnt expect anyone to stay with me if I ended up like that and would actively encourage them to meet someone elce. You cant expect someone to have no life just because you dont have one.
I dont believe in all that marriage and partners for ever living together anyway. Its not for me, fair enough for those who want that.

It is really up to the individuals, and how they agree to deal with such things

For the Dignitas aspect, I would suggest looking at Terry Pratchett's work on assisted suicide in particular "Choosing to Die"

Very nearly ended up there 18 months ago. Fortunately I did end up walking again, but the constant back pain doesn't help 'relationships'. My wife is just glad I can walk, and am not commuting on bikes any more ! Fortunately, both my wife and I are committed to our relationships, "for better or worse" you promise. Shoot happens sometimes, that's life, you can't just abandon someone. If you aren't committed to someone, don't get in a relationship.
