Yes you can provided a spur fuse is installed to allow a lower value 5 amp fuse to be fitted .

I would personaly have no problem as long as the plug was fitted with a 3 amp fuse although I would probably change the socket to one with a built in earth leakage circuit breaker, you are talking about the socket being inside the house ?

external lights sadly are notifiable work under Part P of Building regulations . that means a fee for LABC to inspect ( they rarely do ) or getting a person who is a member of a approved competent persons scheme to install test and certificate. technically a external light fitting on a plugtop is an appliance but i wouldn't fancy trying to argue that one in court if the LA did try and prosecute for non notifictaion

I will draw you a diagram of how to do the connections and what is needed based on the info supplied.

Another question please sir ....

Bathroom has 5 shower downlights. Flat roof with 76mm holes, these are rubbish as i can't unscrew the fancy chrome lids to change the bulbs and the chrome is peeling away.
Any decent light recommendations that will fit the existing holes?

Do they come in different sizes to fit my pre existing holes? I don't want to be creating bigger or plugging smaller that my current 76mm openings
New house again. 2 questions....

I want to fit an external security light. I understand I can take a feed from a socket, into a fused connection unit, and then out through the wall. Connection-wise, is it just a case of using the internal cable connections and screwing the feed to the fused unit into them?...
On this question, my external security light is connected to a normal-looking double switch inside the porch ...one switch is for the porch light, the other is the switch to the security light (you can therefore choose to have the security light powered or not).It was fitted for us about a year ago by a qualified electrician. I can take the switch cover off and post a photo of it on here if you want.

Yeah sounds like you can as long as there's a neutral there which should be blue cables probably in a connector block

could be a black cable - depends on age of installation

Blue can be neutral or live and black can be a neutral or live .

idealy there should be an oversleeving to identify the duty of the cable but a lot of lazy sparks don't fit it.

He said it was installed a year ago probably blue
oops missed that . still could be black if there was a 3 core down to the switch. Brown Black grey and sparks has gone against convention and used black as N . the oversleeve is the identifier tho.
