My rear derailleur on my Dawes Audax has just broke and I am looking for a replacement. I don't think the one on it was not the correct one. Its a triple front changer and 10 speed back. The changers and front derailleur are Shimano 105.

I am looking at Shimano 105 5600 and 5700 rear derailleurs. As its a triple I think its the 5700 I need to go for. Do I need a short or medium cage, what's the difference?

Any advice welcome.

It should give the front tooth maximum difference. So if it's a Dawes, what have you got a 32 inner and 52 outer, which means you need a rear derailleur which will cope with a 20 tooth front difference. Whichever one does this will be the one you want. The rear is a close ratio ten, so max 25 teeth maybe 27, most derailleurs will cope with this.
