I have been currently looking at buying merida reacto 5000 and the scultera 5000 or should i look at different brands?

Also i can get 10% off the merida price from a local bike shop

What are your needs? Will you be commuting, touring, going on gravel paths etc. More information would be helpful please?

I would take any advice with a pinch of salt too as you need to sit on both bikes and see how comfortable you feel. I tried a Genesis Crox de Fer but found the straight top tube too aggressive so settled on a Norco Threshold A2, my go anywhere machine.

I will be doing a few sportives and just weekend riding and the local TT and its mostly tarmac roads

I have a Merida Ride and really like it. Very well finished.

The Scultura is a lovely looking bike whereas I think the Reacto is ugly.

If you're going to be riding a lot of hills I would go for the Scultura.

If you'll be doing mainly flat, fast rides then the Reacto is more aero and may be better.

I would say most of my riding is flat apart from the ocassional hill but there's a sportive i am doing in july which will head into the north yorkshire moors which there will be alot of hills
but lot of flat so a balance between both bikes is what i am after

A lot to be said for forming a relationship with your local bike shop by buying from them.

Merida is as good a brand as any, so unless another make/model really appeals, you could save yourself a lot of time by not going around in a big circle by trying to look at lots of other brands.

Hmm, sounds like your guided by your LBS. £2000 is a lot of bike for some leisure riding, IMO.

£1000 bike, £500 second wheelset, £500 spares and kit is my approach.

Good advice. The 105 equipped alloy Meridas generally come in under the £1000 mark. The alloy Merida frames are superb. In fact I bought one having test ridden it against the carbon version and found that I actually preferred the alloy. But maybe I'm just weird.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I came to a conclusion last night and seems the reacto would be better as i going to do TT's more when my club starts them again.
