which commuter bike?

I have a Specialize Sirrus. Bought s/h and about 8 years old. can’t fault it.

Thanks - I've looked into these, but the prices I've found the two bikes I mentioned in my original post are the best value. Scourer for £370 and Boardman for £300.

Could all be in the test drive. Take each for a spin (if you can) and see which feels the most you.

i understood that disc brakes were more reactive than caliper?

I cycle extremely cautiously, but I'm sure you'll know if you've cycled through central London that you can't always account for what pedestrians, and other road users, will do!

You didn't specify that you wanted disc brakes. You can get those on road bikes now :P

If you can still get one, the Halcyon Yukon looks a good bike; Shimano Nexus 8-speed sealed hub gears too (if the going gets really filthy!)
