I have Continental City Contact on my town bike. They are supposed to be armoured, but they aren't that great! What do you use for town and city riding? The only thing I do like about the contis is that they are in a 35mm width, which makes them comfortable and non-skiddy. One of mine is now out of action due to a puncture, and I have a 23c armadillo on the rear that I sometimes use on my road bike and it is waaaaay skiddy because it's so narrow!!

Personally I have a set of Schwalbe marathons on mine and they seem alright (28x32 iirc). I was looking into getting the City Contact because of the foreign object policy (get a puncture within the first year, get a new tyre and tube free or something similar), are they really that bad?

Touch wood my Conti Contacts have been good; they've done over 8,000 miles and just 2 dreaded p'tures. One when they were newish (a glass bottle which I should have easily seen/ avoided  ) and the second just before Christmas somebody had left a drawing pin for me, how thoughtful  . I'd guess about 7,500 miles between unscheduled deflations which is good enough for me. I never tried it (mine are too old) but the new versions come with a safety system guarantee (they'll give you a new tyre if you have a p'ture); if other than the p'tures you like the tyres I'd try the new ones.

I didn't know about that policy - I got the bike of t'internet and I think the tyres are pretty old - the bike was a 2-year-old Cube X-City that was brand new but being sold well cheap because of the age. I may go for some newer contis, although I used to have contis on my road bike and they used to blow all the time. Now that I've switched to Schwalbes I get far fewer punctures.

I have Marathon Plus tyres on the hybrid, 700 x 25C, and they do seem pretty bomb-proof , Fairy-wise, for my urban commute. Can anybody suggest a similar tyre for a road bike 700 x 23C used for the same type of non-competitive trips? Thanks.

There's been a few threads on that the, the two which spring to mind are the spesh Armadilo's and the Conti Gator Skins but there is a third thats highly reviewed.

Bontrager Racelite hardcases, over five thousand miles last year with only a couple of punctures.

I have 700x25 Marathon Plus which I rate at 10/10 for being puncture proof; but 3/10 for handling as they don't inspire confidence in slippery conditions. Who knows a great handling tyre that also bomb proof?

I'm running on Marathon Plus, 700x25. My stock Hutchinsons were getting two or three punctures a week. So far I've been 5 months free of holes

Probably gone and jinxed myself now, mind...

I think it all depends on the road conditions you have to ride on , i have country lanes with thorns then a glass strewn cyclepath to contend with, i get maybe 1 flat a month using conti gator skins .I will be upgrading to durano + i think next time .

I found this article that you might find interesting about tyre choice...

M+ on the hybrid
Durano+ on the road bike.

Would probably have put M+ on both if I had the clearance, but as an alternative the Durano+ have done well, the odd flat but they have done nearly 3,000 miles mostly commuting with a heavy load to carry ie me.
You do need to have a weekly/fortnightly check for little bits of glass though, I regularly pick bits out with Mrs Potsy's tweezers

Just read Cyberknights link and I like the look of the Conti Supersport plus, they look very similar to the Durano+
