Which Flight connection would you take?

Right a bit of Friday afternoon thinking required.

I'm off to NZ in May and have 2 options with my flights and am stuck with the best choice. The choices are:

Fly from Heathrow to Bangkok (BKK) - on the 21:30 (arrives 15:05)
or Fly London City to Frankfurt - Frankfurt to BKK leaving City at 16:55 arrives BKK 14:10 (100 mins stop over in FRA)

I live 15 mins from City airport and it has a 15 minute check in time.

I live a 2 hour trip (at that time of evening) from Heathrow and there is a 2.5 hour check in time.

With the aid of airpoints we are going business class, and City has no lounge Heathrow does.

What would you do?

Phew - I had guilt like I hadn't experianced for years! (I even checked to see how many people went to NZ a year to show how easy it is to get to for UK citizens (288,000!)

Never been through City, but based on previous experiences of Heathrow I'd rather walk to Frankfurt over broken glass, carrying my luggage in my teeth whilst being stabbed in the privates with a cattle prod, than set foot in there.

I'd fly from City airport if I were you. There's always a 'six of one, half a dozen of the other' to decide upon, but avoid Heathrow if you can. Make the start as easy and comfortable as possible.

In fact, I'll be at Heathrow for four hours tomorrow on a stop-over, en route to Washington, then Key West for a two week holiday.

I like Heathrow too, and I'm in and out of there like a dog in a butchers door at the moment.

But the Art of good travel is never having to breaking into a sweat. Use that as your mantra.

If you've plenty of time to go to Heathrow, then go there early, loose the bags and enjoy the lounge. Once you're on that plane there's few worries. Whilst City is more convenient, changing planes is always a source of anxiety and unexpectedness and often an unpleasant hurtle through unknown airports.... not good for the holiday spirit.

I'd go from Heathrow, the least number of changes of flights the better the chance of your luggage arriving with you. I also find that Heathrow is not such a bad airport to spend some time looking around and much better than the nearly 2 hour wait you'll have at Frankfurt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live just down the road from you. I'd do City.
However just make sure you know when the next BKK plane is as and hour and a half is not a lot of spare time for you and your baggage to swap planes, especially if the City flight is running late.

What you loose in Heathrow hassle you may gain in Frankfurt hassle

Personally, I've had nothing but good experiences at Heathrow. Flying out to Singapore from there in a month or so, I actually enjoy the 2 hours in the airport!

No brainer IMHO. I'd go from City. I'd also make sure I had enough stuff in my hand luggage so I could survive for a week if I had to.
I appreciate there's no lounge at City, but if you can't get enough free booze down your neck on a flight to NZ then there's absolutely no hope for you.

If you can check your luggage right through from London City to Bangkok (assuming you are having a stopover there), then I would probably go that way, but if you have to check in again at Frankfurt I think I'd go to Heathrow and get it all over with there. I don't mind Heathrow, there are worse airports to have to hang around at.
