I hate doing exercise alone, I've pretty much always competed in team games or martial arts, but I like cycling. I cycle a lot at work so figured why not cycle to work also. I started in August and at the end of October I had realised I had only filled the tank of the car once, where usually it would be 4-5 times, so saving myself £45 or so a time.

May I ask, how much weight have you now lost? Sounds like you were pretty damn motivated!

The scary thing...only about 4 stones (it was the smoking that did more damage than the weight)
I think I was 18 stones when I gave up smoking, then up to 20 but felt better as a non smoking 20st than as a smoking 18st..which helped me to get moving once the smoking was well and truly behind me

Still some way to go but 16 stones non-smoking and reasonably active (cycling, waking, running) feels a hell of a lot better than 20 sedentary

I will agree with that in every way.

I hated being a slave to the weed. I was 17 stone and unhealthy. I ballooned about 12 months after stopping as food tasted sooooo much better. I hit 21 stone but felt healthier, I could run up the 9 storeys in work without needing an oxygen mask at the top, OK i would be huffing and puffing.

this last few months commuting on the bike and a change in diet - cutting down on Alcohol in the week etc has made a huge difference. it might only be 3 miles each way but its getting to the point where the scenic route, if there is such a thing in the grim East end of London , is going to start on the way home.
