Why do I hate shopping so much?

I'm a sane, rational bloke who can cope with most of what life throws at me, yet when it comes to clothes shopping I experience an almost pathological reaction, I feel miserable, angry, hopeless, claustrophobic... this awful feeling of doom comes over me and makes me irrational and bad tempered. In short I HATE clothes shopping. Yesterday I got hauled to the shops to help buy school shoes for RR junior and while there I was going to buy some new shirts. I dashed into M&S, grabbed a 3 pack of plain shirts and scarpered as fast as I could, relieved that it had been so quick. I hate to sound silly but it affected the rest of my day, which passed under a cloud of frustration.

Why? And why does my wife love shopping, even when it's only window-shopping?

One of life's great unanswered questions. I hate shopping, especially with anyone else. I don't mind a speed shop on my own for shirts, etc. And I don't mind shopping for bike bits, I must admit, but have to leave the missus at home. I once went to Decathlon and spent 15 minutes browsing and wifey said it had been an hour. She doesn't like it when it's on the other foot does she?

I enjoy clothes shopping if I'm going in to buy / replace something specific, but I hate just generally looking around at clothes. In fact, I hate 'window shopping' of any kind. Seems a pointless waste of time.

I don't have the time to walk around aimlessly anymore...or patients. If I need or want something I'll go and look for it.

Last sunday I did just browse though, but I had to swap a DVD I already owned (got for Christmas). Had some ideas of what I wanted but couldn't find them...so had to find something else (got The Unit).

Cor, I'm impressed - do your patients normally do your shopping for you? Where can I get some of those to do mine?

I must admit I hate clothes shopping as well. If I want, say new shoes, I walk into the shop, look at the first pair I see, if they fit, I buy them. Job done. The females I know would spend a day doing that and probably drive all over the country, spoend about £15 on petrol to save £1.99 on the item they want to buy...

Hang on a minute. You say you hate shopping with anyone else. So why shouldn't your wife hate shopping for something she has no interest in? She should be allowed to post a  at you.

I don't like clothes or shoe shopping. I only really buy jeans, shoes and underwear new. If I can't get what I want in the first couple of shops, I give up in a strop. Jeans can be a pain - if the arse is big enough, the legs are too long... Add in the requirement for cheapness and it gets very annoying. And the sheer bewildering variety of pants in M and S drives me mad.

Other clothes (and jeans if I'm lucky) I find in charity shops, so its just a case of getting something if I happen to see it and like it.

It's why god created the internet. Can't remember the last time I went in a real shop for anything bar food!

I also hate shopping with a passion, but mainly because I'm quite picky.

I usually can't stand the latest fashions, and that's all the shops tend to sell.

My last fashion hate was jeans with holes in the knees and arse. I've already got those that's why I want a new pair.

I really need to get some new trainers, but I can never find any I like. So far 3 shopping trips has resulted in one pair "which will make do for now".

It doesn't help being a size 12. Apparently fashionable people don't have big feet

and breath....

Last autumn I went shopping for an overcoat, intending to wear it to work etc. I searched the shops for hours to find one and I haven't worn it once.

My wife and I have very different shopping techniques. If I go shopping, shopping, like properly, in a town, then I tend to criss-cross the town making sure I find all the shops that have what I want and checking the price against the others, as well as any relevant details. The fact that I end up buying it in the first shop I went into is neither here nor there: It's a kind of internet shopping on foot. Thing is I've always done it. Stems from the days when pennies mattered and the city is where you went to buy stuff. None of these out of town things or the internet.

Probably Arch. I have waited literally days for Mrs. KH whilst shopping with her and been extraordinarily patient (if I do say so meself). But when the boot is on the other foot for what is usually a much shorter period of time and infrequently, she gets impatient. I'll admit we don't shop much together now as a result.
