...think they've the god given right to dis-regard 'your' life ie - how they act on the road: far more stringent laws / on the spot penalties should be brought in to make these disrespectfull culprits accountable for their actions !

It's because this country is a total **** up.

I agree, its a total waste of time expecting any improvements for cyclists and other road users alike, the whole system is a joke and nobody gives a f*ck.
Just today I was riding to work, 2 lanes, traffic built up in left lane up to the red light, right lane has 2 cars at the red light. Im thinking i might ride between the cars and get to the ASL at the front but have to hold off as there is a police car taking up the whole ASL. Oh whats this I see, its the traffic police too. Also before anybody says I shouldnt be going into the ASL through stationary vehicles there was a cycle lane leading to it so I could have entered it lawfully.
Anyway my point is the police obviously see the ASL as a breakable rule so where do we go from here????:tongue:!

I once saw a police cyclist about to jump a red light (which no cyclist would have stopepd at, I might add) when she suddenly saw me looking incredulously at her having caught her in the act and she quickly braked. I'm 100% sure she would have sailed straight through (her mate had got through) if I hadn't been watching.

The standard of driving in this country is getting more and more akin to what you see when there's a programme on that's been filmed in India. Nobody uses indicators, let alone mirrors and I can't help but draw comparison to the 'every man for himself' attitude that's got the nation in its current state of financial ruin.

I think the standard of driving by policemen / women has deterioated as well.

+1. I was taking a right hand turn into a one way street last night. I was going at a fair pace as there was oncoming traffic and I was "nipping" in front of them. Imagine my surprise as I was nearly run over by a woman in a BMW coming down said one way street the wrong way. What amused me about was it was the filthy look she gave me!!

I'd be careful about challenging coppers - before you know it they could have you under a section 44.

I think you're perhaps being unfair to Indians. When I was there in October, my impression was that although the traffic is total and utter chaos there doesn't appear to be that animosity between road users. It didn't seem to me that people in cars desired those on bikes to get out of their way - unlike here. Everyone just works their way around each other. The skill needed to drive in Indian traffic is probably a lot more than that needed here...

Not sure why I'm being unfair to Indian road users; I didn't say that Indian road users hated each other?! I was merely pointing out that our roads are getting chaotic, as they appear in India from programmes shown in the UK. Sure their system works, however I could have picked any number of countries that seem to have a less regimented structure to their traffic system than we're (supposedly) used to in Western Europe.
