Sir, For many years I have used an old carrier bag to protect my bicycle saddle in wet weather. I parked my bicycle outside the supermarket for ten minutes this morning. When I returned, the bag had disappeared for the first time ever. A rethink is clearly going to be necessary.

I took a wee pootle over the border this morning into Englandshire, and spotted a bag lying at the side of the road with something inside it; I stopped and discovered it was an England rugby shirt which had been thoughtlessly discarded. I was quite shocked by this - bags cost 5p nowadays...
