Just got back into riding and decided i want a road bike as my mtb is too much for a decent road ride.

It'll be my first road bike but im saving for a wedding in 10 months, so thought about £300 would get me started other than the btwin triban's at decathlon theres not much about in a 63/64cm frame.
I was told you can go to evans and get bikes on credit, so i thought i could get a bit more bike and spread to cost, at the same time stopping the wife-to-be murdering me for 'wasting money when we have more important things to pay for'.

I should mention im 6'8 which is slightly above 'tall' but even so £800 http://www.evanscycles.com/products/trek/15-t-h2-2012-road-bike-ec030300 for the cheapest road bike that would fit me is ridiculous. It does look like a lovely bike but seriously hows a new guy to cycling supposed to get into it?

Does anyone else sell bikes on montly payment plans?

Most places offer various forms of finance TBH. I'd normally recommend looking at second hand to most people with your budget, but it just doesn't work when your taller.

I'm 6' 5", and my searches for used bikes have always proved fruitless. As they don't come up for sale very often they always seem to attract a premium when they do.

I'm afraid I can't point you in any new directions as I've never bought a bike at this price point, except a Specialized Langster Steel, but you don't want a fixed gear bike.

FWIW the Decathlon bikes always seem to get good reviews. A fair few on here have them and I've never seen anything negative about them.

Just bought a Triban 1 for my lad and for £299, it's a bargain. Buy with confidence and just fit better tyres. I'm very impressed.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Not just tall people who find it hard to get bikes, i am over a foot smaller and most places do not carry bikes that are a perfect fit , my current bike i had to get the shop to order in specially as none of the chain within 30 miles carried that size .

To be fair to Evans, most bike shops don't stock much (if anything) in that size.

Apart from the Triban (which I've never actually seen in stock anywhere in a 63cm), you could try a Giant Defy. I think they start at around £500, and the XL is pretty big. I'm also 6'8" and I ride the Trek you linked to, and I think a slightly longer stem is all I'd need to get the Defy to work for me.

You could always take out a Tesco type loan, and pay that back monthly. Ofc that'll end up with you paying slightly more, but it may be the price to pay for splitting the cost over time.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Tesco loans are not with 0% apr so would rather not.

The more I think £800 is ridiculous but I may just do it anyway ;-)
