Why is Goole a bike heaven?

I've been to Goole a couple of times recently for work and while everything else about the place is hideous and depressing, both times I've noticed lots of really lovely bikes locked up around the town centre. Why, what's the connection between Goole and nice bikes? Can anyone think of a reason for it? I even saw the version up from my bike, it's identical except it has gears and is a darker colour.

Yum.

(When I say 'lovely bikes', I mean lots of step-through vintagey looking ladies bikes. The men's bikes were really crappy looking.)

I have cycled to Goole. There are worse places but I don't the thename is a PR man's dream.

..nor come to that is 'Hull'! Why is Kingson-upon-Thames (posh southerners) abbreviated to 'Kingston' whereas Kingston-upon-Hull (gritty northern place) is called 'Ooll'?

Because Hull is actually another river that runs into the Humber through Hull, and Hull sounds more Yorkshire than Kingston

Besides, most people from (former) Humberside can't pronounce anything with more than one syllable, hence shortening every town name in the area (Driff - Driffield for example).

Yes, York used to be Eboracum, then Yorvik, now just York

Only the ones from the former North Humberside. I'm sure Gerry will agree that south bankers are a different breed .
