On this one she explains what happened. The most amazing bit of the interview though is when the chap confirms she was placed 4th in the competition. She responds by saying, actually I was 3rd runner-up. Now thats a phrase I'll be using in the future

Not entirely surprising. Most Americans never holiday outside the States and have no reason to look beyond its shores. You may recall in an earlier post I pointed out a University educated high ranking manager in my organisation didn't know what 'EC' meant. This was in the context of a discussion about European taxes. Why would he?
