Each to his own etc but i just don't get it.
Please enlighten me.

It's a Baja Bug, the concept goes back to the 1960s in California so it's quite an old and well known genre of VWs. Maybe not to your taste but as you say, to each his own.
He might find it baffling that people spend "car money" on push bikes.

They are fun for sand and offroading. There is also a bit of a cult following for modified VWs. I wouldn't do that either, but if I had to have a Beetle I wouldn't keep it standard unless it was to keep it mint for appreciating purposes.

Why not? Classic cars are about individuality. My Capri was going to be restored to standard until I found it's not a numbers matching engine. So now I will have a play, and make it my own.

If it ever gets finished.
Very few project cars ever do. Once the novelty wears off or the project defeats the engineering skills of the owner they sit there rusting till eventually the scrappie gets a call.

Agree, when I had car sites we would often get the "what will you give when its finished brigade in" normally driving some old rust bucket hand painted in red oxide.
