aldi's bratwurst, schnitzel and frikadillen aren't bad actually, grab yourself some new potatoes, make some kartoffelsalat (internet for recipe, very easy) and get some sauerkraut and you're all set for a feast!
make sure you wash it down with a decent pilsner from our esteemed germanic brothers, i recommend Veltins (from tesco) Bloody lovely.

Yes I do like the frikadillen. I chuck it in a tom sauce (Fry onion, garlic, half tin toms, oregano, basil, add frikadillen, add to pasta) Very quick meal.

Sometimes even Australians confuse themselves with Austria it seems: these stores had opened all over melbourne the last time I was there http://schnitz.com.au/
Family business has brought me to Melbourne, cycle chat business brought me here ....

Yup, I indulged it what is - apparently - colloquially known as "schnitz and chips". No veal or pork on the menu, so I opted for chicken.

Thanks @Andrew_Culture , that's another inch on the hips I'm blaming on you!

A picture with a Bike and food, all it needs is a pint to make it complete.

Jesus Christ what an abomination jefmcg! Sorry I've been lurking for years but had to sign-up to clarify some of the Schnitzel misinformation that is being spread here:
- Firstly if it's smaller than your plate you are being ripped off in some tourist trap. This is what we call a portion, the above pic must be the child sized portion:
schnitzelteller.jpg

- Schnitzel is usually pork (proper meat), but it can also be turkey (Putenschnitzel) or veal (Kalbsschnitzel), usually listed under the vegetarian option. Try them all and let me know if you can taste a difference.
- Schnitzelsemmel is a great snack (Schnitzel in bread roll, usually sold from vans)

Schnitzel is not really a proper dish though (more like fast food) no wonder Brits think German food is crap if that's all you ever eat!

(Disclaimer: All of the above is not really serious. Just making sure German humours isn't lost on Brits as usual :-) )
Right, that's sorted. Where do I put my towel for tomorrows first post?
