I used to log commute times. Until my (cheap) bike computer broke. Im suspecting sabotage too!

Bear in mind. I now have a much longer commute and im *sure* I do it in half the time

Sorry, I couldnt be bothered to strip the metadata from the excel file. So a screenshot will have to do.

no you are def not sad  I have been commuting for over 3 years and the first extra i put on the bike was a little computer to log my mileage. I average about 2350 per year and i am hoping by the end of this month i will have cycled approx 7000....

Perhaps your wife would consider you to be less sad and prefer it if you engaged in more typical male pursuits such as lusting after women.

i run a cycle commuting competition at work. it started off as one guy keeping a simple leaderboard between 5 of us. i took it over and turned it into "le Tour de National Grid Commute" and there are even prizes.

Maillot Jaune : most miles in the year
Maillot Vert : most trips in the year (introduced for those who had short commutes and couldn't compete on the miles
Maillot a Pois Rouge (polka dot) : fastest downhill sprint (no one likes climbing )
Lanterne Rouge : Laziest rider

this year we have introduced our own colour for the person who climbs the most during the year. It's blue polka dot and is called the Maillot J'adores les Collines (i love hills jersey).

all our scores are kept on an excel sheet with stupid silly rules to keep everyone laughing. All mishaps and scores are logged and reported in each month in journalistic style. It's a great little competition and at the end of the year the company lets me have some national grid t'shirts and i dye them the appropriate colour to be handed to the winners at the celebration meal.

if anyone fancies giving it a go at their workplace and can send you my template. We even made the excel worksheet automatically work out the carbon we save per mile, so it's an eco-friendly competition too.

Sounds like fun buggi

Alas. I am the only cyclist where I work. There is only one other "maybe i'll ride when the weather is nice"

I commute over four times the distance he does. The other week, we left at the same time and I passed his street before he got there in his car

Oh I thought it was compulsory to log miles

Anyway my OH had me down as sad, but now we both have spreadsheets with the miles in! It is catching! (I'm ahead by quite a way!)

does anyone else keep records or is the wife correct in saying that cycling has taken over my life and i have turned into a sad person.

Just the wife ? I have 2 daughters who think that, and I don't keep records.

I keep mileage records. I have my AUK badges and patches in display frames. I mark a ring round my name in the AUK handbook etc.

My wife thought I was sad.

I'm divorced now.

I don't keep detailed records, but I passed a milestone tonight. As I cycled back into Derbyshire I got quite excited as my cycle computer finally got to 9999.9 (it's taken about three years). Imagine my disappoint when a few yards further down the road the display clicked over to...

10000.0

Doh! Only another 89,996 miles to go now....

I've kept a spread sheet with records of all my rides since January 2002. Interesting reading although the records are more detailed for the last few years than in the early ones.
YES, I'm sad
