I find them rather hypnotic and reassuring. Much like an open fire (but better for the environment) I can gaze at them for several minutes, watching the way that the sails seem to move seemingly at odds with the fact that I know they are rotating at a constant speed, and watching them stand defiantly on top of hillsides, or getting their feet very wet out to see, gives a certain solidity to life, working away not despite, but because of the wind conditions out/up there.

And, likewise, I cannot see complaints about them ruining the views without also seeing those people who complain when our industrial heritage is destroyed or put at risk.

In France the access roads to windfarms are available as cycle paths and cycle route systems will make use of them (eg cycle.travel) so recorded as being available for cyclists.

I walked up quite close to a big windmill/turbine. There was a bit of a light swoosh as the blade went through the low point. But one has to be right up to it to even hear that.
They can make quite a lot of noise on a windy day. I visited the Burgar Hill site on Orkney in the mid 1990s when the big turbine was one of the biggest in the world, and thought it was like standing next to a motorway with a constant stream of HGVs whizzing past.
