I use this on Windows 7 but I keep getting Admin messages to say my mailbox is getting full - but there isn't all that much mail in my boxes. Is there a way of changing the max. size of the mail boxes?

Dunno for sure, but I can tell you that I use Windows Live for both my work and private email and have 1000's of emails and have never had that Admin message. Which makes me think that there is something amiss with your settings somewhere. Sorry if this doesn't answer your question directly, but it does seem that it's something which should be resolvable.

Yes, I have that ticked. Should I 'untick' it or leave it 'ticked' and 'tick' the 'remove from server after n days'?

Up to you. Depends on whether you want to receive all your email on multiple devices or not.
But I would suggest you log into your webmail page (go to your isps main page and there should be a link there)
and see how much mail is sitting on the servers as I suspect the report is coming from there.
