in Scotland anyway. I ran out of gears coming over the Forth Road Bridge and at one point was standing on the pedals in my lowest gear just to move forwards, I haven't even done that climbing hills

I couldn't even get out of the granny gear on the downhill stretch, when I am often off the top end of the gear ratios:ohmy:

Drove to station - went into Embra by train.

I was blowing a hooligan today. I don't mind rain but wind like that is a pain in the gluteous maximus.

Should be better tomorrow tho'

I liked the wind this morning. A brisk Sou'Westerly blows me from home to work nicely, especially given my 1 week off with no cycling and too much eating. I had a very brisk second half to my journey, and would have hit the 13 minute target if Mr Gateman hadn't stopped me to talk about air conditioning.

However I do have to get home tonight. Hoping that the wind drops by then.....

Surely more like a pain in the VMO's?

Yep, it was a fair old fight at points along the route this morning trying not to be blown to a standstill. It was made even worse when my nicely-adjusted gears went awry 3/4 of the way into the journey - looks like another almost completely shredded gear cable. I was stuck with only the bottom three rings on the cassette as my available options.

There must be a sharp edge in my STI innards somewhere as that's the third cable to go in a year, all being severed or shredded in exactly the same place.

ran out of gears coming over the Forth Road Bridge

Surprised that the bridge was open to peds and cyclists today, been closed when i have attempted to cross it in less windy weather.

Looked out the window at 4.00am and decided that it would be the car for me today.

Just what I thought half way across as I was blown to a standstill! I have known it closed at what seemed lower wind speeds

Did not notice on my in this moring, going home may be a wee bit different. Looking on the bright siide at least the wind is warm unlike last Sunday. Did the East Neuk coast road and suffered, thought my ears where going to drop off.
Had to seek shelter on the North Point cafe and just by luck they had cake!

OH joy and its just started to rain in St A's.

Well was fine for me this morning as the wind was behind me. But coming back though was a different story, headwind all the way. Sometimes it hurts, but just think of the leg muscles you'll be gaining from it. The rest of this week should be fine.

I think if your more nearer the coast the winds tend to be stronger, going over the bridge like the weather we had today would be a bit of a bugger lol.

Agree, but not as bad as they predicted ........... the usual 'save yourselves', 'don't travel unless essential?!', stock up on tinned foods etc.

It's all about timing I reckon. I decided it was time to up the ante on my ride home, so instead of the 6 mile uphill grind I decided to take the MTB and try a shorter route which is only 4 miles, but of course the gradients are steeper. In the headwind one bridleway I rode can only be described as brutal. I had to get off and push at one point. Oh the shame!
