+1... loads of space, no covers to open up that require dismantling half of it to get at, nothing hidden in that really awkward place that requires a 15 jointed elbow & ESP to work out if you've located the correct nut/bolt... bliss

Right, if you'd just like to pop around, I'm trying to make up from a pile of old spares a working plunger brake for my new (to me) 1898 gents roadster.

Need to have it all painted, fitted and working by next weekend.

I've just changed the gear cables on mine. Never done it before, and it was a piece of cake. I was at least expecting to have to do a fair bit of fiddling to readjust the gears but no, they pretty much fell into place.

That's a most timely post- both mine snapped in the cold before Christmas so I plan to replace them tomorrow. I changed them ages ago and remember it being much easier than I expected too, can't say I'm looking forward to it though. I've warned Mrs G to expect a fair bit of stroppiness and possible bad language tomorrow!

A tip, when you are fitting a front mech, keep your mobile phone within reach. That way, when the mech grabs your finger against the seat tube and won't let go, and you realise how much leverage from the (not yet fitted) cable is needed to shift it, you won't be stuck wondering how long it'll be before anyone misses you and comes looking for your body.

I did manage to wriggle free, without breaking my finger, but for a moment I wished I hadn't left my phone on the table a few feet away....

It maybe a strength thing but erm, just pull it is easy enough to do
