Not good coming from a Scotsman, I know .
Hated nightshift back in the day, really messed up my system.

Did nightshifts for twenty years until just over a year ago. Don't miss them at all! It's amazing how much healthier I feel, I don't think nightshifts do you any good at all.

I did used to have a glass of wine occasionally with breakfast though!

Did mainly nights and twilight's (17:00-02:30) for over thirty years Only good thing about them was in those days they paid the mortgage and extra holidays. Now I am retired I am normally up by 06:00 and a lot better for it. When I was working 12-14 hour continuous shifts at Christmas I would go through a liter of whisky every three days.

I went from fulltime working shifts (including nights and weekends) to par time office hours. I am substantially finacially worse off, around a £1000 per month down, but much happier and healthier!

I'm so glad i'm on the dayshift I've got 3 building sites surrounding me, 1 out back and 2 in front, the amount off drilling banging and traffic during the day

would drive me crazy

I had to think long and hard before taking the job I'm in now. Cut backs were made. The only substantial difference in lfestyle is that I'd like two weeks in Gozo every summer, as it is we have to settle for five nights camping in Whitby. Having said that, I love Whitby as much as I love Gozo!

Try 04:00 to 12:00 then 20:00 to 24:00 for 5 weeks, 7 days a week - my usual shift pattern at work. I'm fortunate I get lots of time off the rest of the time.

No booze either.

Nights or the very early shift works out great for me. It means I'm around during the afternoons for when my boy gets home from school. No child minder fees, and the fact I'm around for him instead of a minder means a lot to me. As far back as he can remember my boy has had his dad around during the afternoons.
It also means I can get the housework done and dinner ready for when the wife gets in from work. She has a very stressful job (I don't) and the last thing I want is for her to have to come home and spend the next couple of hours cooking and cleaning after a hectic day in the office.
