Oldest son failed his degree three years ago. I have a sneaking regard for someone who can do it but not when it's my money that's been squandered on beer rental but hey ho let bygones be bygones.

He got the first job that he applied for as a junior tech guy at an advertising agency to work on the backroom stuff that keeps e-commerce sites ticking over without a hitch. He's been treated well and is now ranked as a developer but wants to stretch his wings so he released his linkedin profile into the public domain.

Two days later he received a call from an American outfit looking for Ruby on Rails developers - his area of expertise. He's passed the technical interview and has been called down to London for a face to face interview.

He managed to track down the advert for the job that he's being interviewed for - it was advertised by an agency.

Salary? £60,000 - £80,000:eek:

Fer chrissakes that's obscene and a hell of a lot more than is good for him. He's only 24.

Jealous?

Me?

No.

...judging by the amount of input of university lecturers at Birmingham's Language Dept, I'd have to agree with you.

[Edit: Well done Master Vernon!]

About $180k is the going rate for software developers in Silicon Valley at the moment I gather. I know people who are having trouble retaining staff in the UK because of it. Blame it on Facebook, Google, Zynga.........

Doug, you must of heard of Ruby on Rails.....come on. It's a bit like Lucy in the Skies, but different. Wikipedia says:

Ruby on Rails, often shortened to Rails or RoR, is an open source full-stack web application framework for the Ruby programming language. Ruby on Rails is not to be confused with Ruby, which is a general-purpose programming language, on which Ruby on Rails runs.

^_^

......Yes.

Funnily enough it's developing Facebook like apps that the job entails but UK based.

I hope that it is a rewarding interview.
