Eddie was in the year above me in school, and we both went on the same skiing trip one year when we were kids....he is actually a brilliant downhill skier...He is a real daredevil as the others had about 15 years of jumping compared to his two when he faced them.

I don't doubt EtE's talent or courage come to that, its one of those things like Pole Vaulting that you always wonder how people get into when there's no tradition in the country or schools of doing it. He certainly grabbed my interest and seemed to spark an upsurge in winter Olympic coverage since.

Our games teacher 'micky miller' was fresh out of uni and organised the trips. It was him who got us all into skiing as there was a dry slope about 10 miles away in gloucester.. they had small jumps of about 4ft which were terrifying tbh and were where eddie first started experimenting. He said he went into jumping because we alreaddy had a few british downhill skiers and there was more chance he could make a name in that for sponsorship iirc. My o/hs mate was an aerobics instructor in a gym in town he used and the only way he could work the leg press to his level was with all the weights on it and then 2 of the girls sat on top of them as well. He is going to be jumping again to open some new games next year apparently

Apparently Vanessa Mae, is a hot* contender in the downhill event for the Thailand Skiing team in the Winter Olympics

Usual lycra wourkout gear of the late 80's I imagine... no cams involved...she was very fit though...probably 19 or 20 then
