Impressions - favourable. Sensitivity in some menus/demos seems much better than others.
Played on a demo of dance central. Seemed pretty good. A few doubts about the longevity of the game and at £30-40 it's a bit of a toughie.

Played on Kinect Adventures -
20,000 leaks, not my favourite, very similar to Wii stuff.
River rush, a good laugh, pretty good fun. Think this one has a fair bit of longevity.
Rally ball, pretty good also. Might get bored of it a bit quicker.
Reflex ridge, pretty good fun.
Space pop, a bit more passive, kids may like it more than I did. The advantage this has over the Wii is achievements, may add variety and people persist to get the achievements.

Flaws with kinect - many rooms will not to be large enough/have enough space to have two players simultaneously. They should be all right for 1 player.
You need more space than you do for a Wii, you need more width.

Would I buy one? No.
Do I think it a total waste of money? No.
Concerns, mostly with the game content.

This seems to confirm what a lot of initial reviews have said. The first games appear to be demo's or concepts rather than triple-A titles in their own rights. I am sure this will change.

The tech seems very interesting, with drivers already hacked for OSx and Linux aswell as Windows. I think that the big advantage over Move or Wii will be the ability to check feet movement as well as hands and heads.

Full on kicking and punching games will be a reality!

Thankyou Marin,

It does look a neat piece of kit but we are not the type to rush out and buy the latest thing. Wev'e only recently got ourselves a 360, having got by with an originginal xbox.We also have a wii so I was leaning towards giving it a miss anyway, at least for the forseeable future. We will soon be needing a new laptop so the funds will be diverted that way. ( hence my next post)

Thanks again for the input.

Certainly, although there's been a lot of moaning on xbox.com. I had my concerns with context long before I played on it. One problem is the lists people have devised are not accurate, there are games out there not on lists. I think not getting independent developers on board straight away for downloadable kinect games for 400 and 800G was a big own goal. This is one area where it might have beaten the Wii hands down.

It's more a 'risk' of whether the games at £30+ are any good. To be fair a lot of people had this issue with the Wii. I think the experience is broadly similar to the Wii but the graphics are better. Like I said it may have more longevity for some people as you have achievements and if you get bored you can go back to playing something else for it a bit. Mostly I think people will be irritated at this soon after buying a kinect, not wanting to spend £90 on games after having bought all this other stuff.

You can head the ball on one of the games on kinect adventures .

We have our kinect now, though officially it's not making an appearance until Christmas day. I've bought Dance Central & the Sports. My guess is that DC will be the biggest hit. I may have a go myself this w/e, later in the evening when the minis are snoozing; just to check it's working you understand... ;)

Some reviews mention a sensor lag, did you notice this MarinY?

I have seen lag mentioned, can't remember which game it was, but it was title specific (ie. bad programming), rather than the hardware itself.

I want a Minority Report style Windows Desktop!

I had a go at the Kinect Adventures that comes with the sensor last night, and it seems good. Didn't notice any real lag to speak of, and the raft down the rapids was fun. Put away until next month now, but at least it's all set up for when it does come out again. The zone for two players was slightly further from the sensor, so I may move the sofa (elsewhere in room) for a bit more space.

My son had a play on the rafting in hamleys and it looks good. My wife likes the look of the kinect, she even suggested it....... something is going on, her letting a console on the main telly...

Might be a good chance to get a 360
