About 40mph & hit something very narrow just in front the B pillar, or behind if you have rear doors. A tree or pole of about 15cm diameter is more than good enough for the job.

That car had a full roll cage in it which dramatically increases the side impact strength of a car.

One morning, on Stonegate Road, just down from the end of my street I saw a car wrapped around a tree and the car was a couple of feet clear of the ground. I couldn't imagine a scenario that would have lead to that seeing as Stonegate Road was a straight as a die well before and well after the tree in question.

Wildlife/farm stock interaction? Or how about someone pulling out from a side road? With kerbs about a small slide can very quickly become an airborne car. I assume we're talking about this road.

Aye, it could well be a Cayenne but I wouldn't swear to it, such is the damage. 5 spoke wheels are pretty much the best clue as the rear end could be any number of large SUVs. No idea how you do that to a Cayenne short of driving it into a crusher.
I thought it might actually be a latest model Ford Focus judging by the rear light cluster
I'm going for a Lexus.
Is it not a Mitsubishi Lancer? Sportback?

I think the incident happened here on the A11 not the M11, but it gets really confused there as to what is the A11 & what is the M11. My guess would be someone pulled out to the off side lane without checking properly. That car got ricocheted off the central barrier then went airborne before impacting the sign just in front of that lorry. At a steep angle that sign could easily dig in & 'peal' one half of a car from the other.
