Had a Scott S55 Speedster, but now looking for a new bike, with a budget of £7-800 through a cycle to work (Cyclescheme) and wondered if there's a benefit to choosing an "own brand" with Tiagra gears rather than a branded bike with a Sora set? Restricted to stores with Cyclescheme obviously.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Which stores are you restricted to? When you say own brand, which do you mean? You can get a Giant Defy 2 with Tiagra for £800 and a Cannondale Caad/Synapse I think. It'll be the Specialized and Trek bikes which carry the lower group sets as they need to pay for all their marketing ;)

The fit and frame are the most important things, everything else can be upgraded

Can you wait a month or so? The new models are coming through now, so there may be some deals on the outgoing ones - you may find a discounted bike on 0% finance actually works out cheaper than C2W depending what the end of year payment is - check the numbers with HR
