Im after a bike to commute to work which is roughly 15 miles a day and consisting of mainly cycle tracks and a short stint on a mainroad im currently using a cheap mountain bike which has front and rear suspension that does not lock out,
I was looking at getting a Hybrid how ever a friend of mine mentioned getting a decent mountain bike and get road tyres fitted on it. so now im a bit confused on what to do.

if the cycle tracks are really good quality (tarmac) then i would say a road bike.

but if not a hybrid or decent mtb with slimmer tyres will be good.

i started on a hybrid and then went onto a road bike.

just look at the quality of the surface you are going to be using and what you aim to use the bike for.

if you plan to go off roading on the weekend then i would suggest a MTB.

ive just had a quick look on the trek website and to be honest they are both pretty much spot on my price range. Think im being pushed towards the mtb's as there is an off road bike friendly forest not far from me, the next question i have is, Are hybrids geared better for speed as the mtb ive been using is really slow even in top gear?

If you want forest, then go MTB.

Gentle blue runs then poss something like trek 7500.

Hybrid is a generic term so gears could be road or mtb biased
