Sorry to make everyone jealous, but my PPI claim just came through and..wow!. I'm not going to divulge the amount but let's just say that an Orbea carbon fibre bike is within my reach^_^ .

My advice to anyone here thinking of a claim is simple:

1) DO NOT USE A CLAIM HANDLING FIRM. They charge 25-30%.DIY !!

2) Call your bank and get through to their PPI claims dept.

3) Give them the rough dates of your loan/credit card etc - you don't need the paperwork.

4) Wait 8-12 weeks (the hard part).

If successful, you can get a refund in total without having to sacrifice a huge chunk to the claims firms. I saw an item on BBC breakfast that said there are about 800 of them chasing £5 billion.

A five minute phone call and you can be quids in.

Well done that man, especially the DYI route!

I can't reclaim any PPI premiums. Whenever I was offered it, I told them to eff off. So I haven't had to chase the bandits for my own money back, and I've been riding my Ti bike for eight years. ;)

When I took out my credit card I had to tick a box to say I wanted PPI. I didn't cancel it until a year after retiring, so for that year PPI was of no use to me. However, as I ticked the box I can't see how that would count as a miss sell unless I can convince them that I thought I wouldn't be offered the card without it.

I only ever had PPI on my mortgage for a couple of years (less secure job) and I wasn't mis-sold it though. Think we had a year free, then carried it on for another year before cancelling.

As I understand it Compo, if you were not allowed the card unless you ticked the accept box, were under the impression that was the case or even assumed that was the case, you can still get your premiums back.

It's worth checking it out. Also if the first response from the loan company/bank says you are not due a refund something like 80% of people who then complained to the FSA were found in favour of.

So take a NO as a green light.

Same here - I told them to f*ck right off.
Errm...should I still make a claim, though, in case they think I had been paying?

Yes, I know. Blasted claims firm texted me at 6am on a Sunday morning!!.
I now switch my mobile off every night for the same reason. Always around 6am on a Sunday, texts from Orange or about claiming for PPI. At least the texts telling me to claim for an accident come at a reasonable time of the day.....

Nothing is free , banks do not give away billions with no comeback, the money has to be recouped from somewhere, id like to see what future interest rates are applied to customers who claimed against them when they next apply for a loan or mortgage, banks do not forget.
Reminds me of a lad in our office , claimed for whiplash when someone ran in the back of his car doing 5mph and there was nothing wrong with him or his car, he got £2000 comp , and oh dear how i laughed when his insurance went up this year by over £700 on the cheapest quote, i didnt claim on mine for a very similar incident and mine went up just over £15 a year.
