You know you're a grown up when...

For me it's that today I can officially announce that I like G&T. After months of dropping hints to hubby that I would like to try this 'grown up drink' he finally succumbed and bought me a bottle of cheap supermarket gin. I know, he spoils me!
So, at the grand old age of 43.5 I can finally join the grown up brigade. Result.

For me that moment was last year when Christmas morning went from 'Yay, present time' to 'it's 8 o'clock in the morning on a bank holiday, WTF do you want?' My grownupness was confirmed on my birthday at a gig feeling like the only adult at a village hall childrens party.

I go to the pub to try different ales, so I always order a drink I am not sure I'll like (sometimes samples aren't enough to get the jist of a whole pint of the stuff..... Now there's a thing, you can ask for a sample before buying, therefore, you can get a rough idea!).

That said, I have never liked the Gin I have ever tried, so I will never grow up, NEVER!!

I haven't grown up at the age of 44 and I probably never will. Having said that I've liked gin and tonic (and Pimms) since I was 21 or 22. When Metallica released Load me and a mate cooked beef wellington and drank G&T (and some pina coladas later) and listened to the album. It was mostly a good evening.

For me, I first felt like a grown up when my neighbour gave me a cheque as a birthday present. Only a small sum, but having a cheque and taking it to the bank to pay in felt really grown up.

For my daughter, it was when she acquired a moped for her 16th birthday. I did the test ride and the haggling of price, but it was my daughter who had to complete the V5 (or whatever the form was called in those days) and register her details with DVLA. The look on her face, when I passed her the form and a pen, was a picture..... you would have thought I had handed her a live grenade!

Can't be doing with gin. Growing up for me was realising that a drink lover can't drink when he's dead. Which, unfortunately, means I have to ration myself to survive. And keep spirits - brandy and whisky - for special occasions, but it's not all bad...it's my birthday this weekend.
