Person on a bike has come through a red light, left turn bus only lane, straight into the path of a double decker bus. Bus is moving through the lights, in a right turn only lane. Other buses to the rear and on the left hand side. Both lanes lead into a bus station.
Those on his left limit the amount of room he, bus driver, has to move out of the way. The vehicles behind mean that to stop may result in one or more vehicles colliding.
Person on a bike continues up the side of the bus, between bus & the kerb. Rear of the bike is caught by the rear wheels of the bus, resulting in slight damage to the rear wheel. Rider just continues riding away once clear of the buses. Vocally stating what he thinks of bus drivers & anyone he sees.

Time of incident is 6pm earler this month. Rider is wearing hi-vis coat & trousers, but the bike has no lights fitted.

Question is. Who's side would you support if asked what you saw & who you felt was at fault?

Reason for edit was I'd left the caps lock on

Could do with a diagram...but anyone trying to undertake a moving bus is asking for trouble imho.

I wouldnt support the cyclist if he was clearly wrong. End of.
What bugs me then is bus drivers will just have their (possibly) poor view of cyclists re-inforced.
I'd like to think they'd just see him as a tw&t who happens to be on a bike...not a tw&T cyclist. Does that make sense ?

I did check that the bus driver was okay. The thought that someone may have disappeared under your vehicle isn't very pleasant

I'd have dropped one on the cyclist rather than supported him. Then again, I've a particularly low opinion of cyclists after walking from Baker Street to Paddington at about 6pm this evening.

I asked a pavement cyclist whether he wasn't old enough to cycle with the big scary cars this evening, and another who RLJ'd why he was above bothering with the law.

For balance, I also told a van driver and a chap in a Honda Civic that they'd forgotten to put their lights on.

I really must check out the Boris Bikes, I'm sure it would be more fun being part of the traffic rather than walking beside it.

Passed a bloke in full high viz waterproof top and bottoms tonight. Only my bike lights picked his reflectives up (not the cars) and he had a rear light - couldn't see it until I was next to him - batteries dead................

Support the bus driver ... being a cyclist doesn't automatically make you right (much as we might like that!).

+1. The minute he jumped the red light, he lost my sympathy.

Slightly OT, To be wearing hi-vis trousers and coat doesn't suggest to me that he was wearing them with cycling safety in mind, it suggests he's a binman or similar on the way to/from work.

Hi-vist coat & trousers are instead of having lights.
He's also travelled the wrong way through a junction, done by him on a regular basis.
