I started seriously into cycling in 1976, but was off the bike from 1984 to 1997, which I'm not proud of. Then the car went down, and I said, "I'll get back on my bike." My parents gave me and my wife another car though, which kind of defeated the purpose of seeing if I could go car-free; but I did keep riding after that. I'm retirement age, but I still climb the roads in the local hills and mountains as fast as I did 45 years ago, from knowing more about training and nutrition.
I was on the Bicycling magazine forum until they foolishly shut it down, wiping countless valuable posts from industry insiders like Velobro and from other knowledgeable people which I had bookmarked, and have been hoping to find another good cycling forum. I just did a Yandex (I won't use Google) search for "cycling forums," and at or near the top of page 1 of the search results was a page with what someone deemed the top 20 forums, and this one was at or near the top of that one; so I'll give it a try. I had been on the tandem@hobbes listserv forum but got off when it was becoming less helpful. I was on a couple of facebook cycling groups, but then got off of facebook when it was censoring a lot, then a few MeWe groups, but quit MeWe because I didn't like some of the changes MeWe was making. I've been a moderator on several (non-cycling-related) forums, and I hate spam and I know what makes a good forum member.
