Cycling news already picking potential winners...

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/2016-giro-ditalia-could-tempt-grand-tour-time-trialists/

It's a sign of the times when 61Km of time trialling is considered TT heavy. Tours of the early 2000s routinely had 170Km+

Yes, it looks like a bit of enticement from RCS to Dumoulin and Hesjdal, doesn't it? I'm not sure about the other names CyclingNews picks: is Uran quite a good enough time-triallist, or Dennis quite a good enough climber? The other "younger riders" are interesting suggestions but who's expressed an interest in it? Hasn't Kwiatkowski been better later in the season so far?

Today's http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/2016-giro-ditalia-race-route-officially-unveiled-in-milan/ gives an entirely different list of names, except for Dumoulin!

Would Nibali really try for a second win at his home Grand Tour and presumably start the Tour de France tired or not at all? http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/nibali-ready-to-forgo-tour-de-france-and-target-2016-giro-ditalia/ http://velonews.competitor.com/2015/10/news/nibali-may-be-only-big-to-race-2016-giro_387093 What's Vino going to say about that?

It's an admission of relative weakness by Nibali if he does the Giro. He's probably right that he can't beat the other main men in the tdf though. 3 ITTs is a bit odd though. It could balance it a decent climber against a very good one.
