well, I have a few days of work so deciding what to do.

initially was going to jump on the bike a go away for a few days, but now i've decided to jump in the car and go where the windy roads lead me.

I live in the northwest so I think I will head towards the east coast, which is straight across the country and take it from there.

looking, Whitby and Scarbourgh seem the place to visit. Did visit these places when was a child only and so, this looks like the destination for me.
Accommodation is looking like hostels, would like to tent but cannot be bothered. I don't always go away so why treat myself to a hostel and socialise.

Its more straightforward if you are a single person like myself to just up and go, no need to ask for permission, up to a point this is fine, though a female companion would be preferred, not just on this trip but in general. No one likes being alone.

well, that's my plan, scampi and chips and the seafront, map, walking boots, waterproofs, books to read, lack of money. That's about it really.

It's more straightforward if you are a married person like myself just to up and go with your partner's encouragement. This is totally fine and a lack of companionship is preferred not just on any trip but on most trips in general. It's very nice being on your own - being able to do things without arguments, compromise and awkward silences. :okay:

I've only been there once but this is certainly how I remember it:

It's a bit run down and seedy. I cycled through Scarborough last spring on my way to Whitby from Hull. It seemed to be down on its luck.
That's putting it mildly.

I stopped at The Grand a few years ago, it doesn't do what it says on the tin.

I was there a couple of years back and it was lovely.

National Cycle Route 1 must take cyclists through the seedy bits - come to think of it most National Cycle Routes take you through the less salubrious bits of towns and cities.

There for an afternoon so stuck to the main touristy bits but it was vibrant. Off there again in a couple of months when we're staying in the Moors.
