I got an unnamed £45 tablet off EBay last summer. I now use a Nexus 7. The cheap one was rubbish by comparison - slow, poor battery life and just generally horrid.

I have had 2 cheap ones from Ebay and they have been awful and practically unuseable.

I've got a kindle fire hd which I love. I also bought one for my 67 year old mother and she uses it all the time.

If you've got the points to bring it down to your budget I think the Hudl is pretty hard to beat right now, bought two refurbished Mk 1's for £60 for my kids through Argos Ebay as refurbs (I don't have Tesco points). Once you remove the widgets there's no real Tesco-ness to it and the Mk2 is looking a great buy even at it's full price. Annoyingly good.

I got a refurbished 1st gen Nexus 7 32GB for my daughter and it is superb. Just £99 with 12 month Argos warranty. The Hudl is cheaper though, whether as good as I don't know.

The Drama Queen and I both have 1st generation Nexus 7s, while the Mad Scientist has a Hudl. The girls are both happy with their tablets for what they use them for.

My daughter has a 1st gen hudl, it isnt up to ipad spec but it is very good for the money.

I use the original Nexus 7 and the wee bugger whizzes along, if it died I'd have no qualms buying a refurbished...

I got the Hudl 2 a couple of weeks ago, must say I'm very impressed with it
