Went to my initial consultation. Have very bad posture, body leans to one side as a result (9kg heavier on one side of scales than other). I get lower back pain and recently a sore left calf.

I have 2 visits as part of the treatment, but then they reckon I should go twice a week. This would cost £70 a week, or £280 a month.

WTF?????

What are the alternatives, cause it looks like I can't ignore it!

I am 5 ft 11 and 15 3/4 stone, so I'd say being overweight doesn't help!

It won't be forever. I started going in 2008 and went twice a week for about 6 weeks. I block bought 13 visits for price of 12. After that it was once a week for about 6 weeks then once a fortnight for 6 weeks then once a month to 6 weeks .

I now go about once every 2 months and it works.

My chronic leg ache has gone and I sleep better .

It won't fix some things dodgier ones say it will but it will put your spine and shoulders back in line.

I went on Tuesday after being knocked off last Thursday, a huge difference in my shoulder after some adjustments .

Pilates or swimming?

Or see a sports Physio for a tailored exercise programme? Most charge around £50 for the first hour long assessment and maybe £40 for 30 mins thereafter

Osteopath.
First experience wasn't great as, although it helped I had 10 visits at almost £40 a go.
Tried a different one next time and was sorted in 2 visits. He advised should never usually need more than 2 visits if it's going to help.

Might not make much difference  I'm a fan of Chiros I now go once a month & if I don't I feel it. I'm 6'5" & was 19 stone when i started my 'latest' treatment. having lost 4 stone in the last 2 years it has made no difference to my back problems & I still require a monthly visit to keep on top of the pain/problems. I had to cancel my last appt as I was in hospital, so it's about 6 weeks since my last visit & I can tell
It might be expensive, but if it helps improve your health & life it'll be worth it, certainly was/is for me anyway.

I am lopsided but it was good to be told it as an adult after an X-Ray, as it made sense of various things. It was suggested by my GP to try Pilates to improve my core strength and it has the knock on effect of giving me a good stretch especially of those muscles that get tight through cycling. And it's a lot cheaper than that for a weekly class, though if you wanted one to one sessions it would be more expensive.

Blinkered people who have only heard about the dodgy lying chiros. Rather than the good ones. I went in very cynical and tight lipped But he examined me and told me where the problem was . Funny enough not lower back, wasn't told lopsided either.

I wasn't told bollox about it curing heart disease and asthma either

OP your symptoms are exactly the same as I had. To cut a long story short, I did the usual male thing of ignoring it for a while, then finally tried the NHS (who were useless) before ending up with surgery. Chiro relieved some of the pain for me, but ultimately I had to go under the knife.

My suggestion is to go to your GP and start putting the pressure on to get referrals to someone who may be able to help. My GP tried to fob me off by telling me it was old age at 39 years old, despite me informing him exactly how much pain I was in. When I got to a specialist I was immediately and accurately diagnosed and treatment could start. Good luck.

What do you call alternative medicine that works?

Medicine.

And always remember folks, the plural of anecdote is not evidence.

Care to read the link I provided? Here's how it begins:
Chiropractic was invented by D. D. Palmer, Sep 18, 1895 when he adjusted the spine of a deaf man and allegedly restored his hearing (a claim that is highly implausible based on what we know of anatomy). Based on this one case, Palmer decided that all disease was due to subluxation: 95% to subluxations of the spine and 5% to subluxations of other bones.

The rationale for chiropractic hinges on three postulates:

  1. Bones are out of place
  2. Bony displacements cause nerve interference
  3. Manipulating the spine replaces the bones, removing the nerve interference and allowing Innate (a vitalistic life force) to restore health.
There is no credible evidence to support any of these claims.
You didn't answer my question did you. I will ask again .

And just in case you didn't understand my earlier posts . My chiropractor has never made claims that you state in the link.
