while they may have an 'extra layer of protection', they are still a very light, performance oriented tire that are great for speed
This ^^^^4000's are great tyres but are firmly in the race category IMO
Endurance, puncture resistance/robustness, grip, rolling resistance, cost. Decide where you are on the pentagon and choose a tyre accordingly.
I have just fitted a 4000 SII in place of a Michelin Pro4 SC because it measures up at 29mm (as opposed to 26mm) and I hoped it would give a bit more cushioning at the front during londonedinburghlondon - starts Sunday. And with slightly better rolling resistance. And because I found it 'cheap(er)'.
Rollingresistance.com offers good data (albeit on a drum, not real world) and the facility to compare (3) different tyres on screen.
