A thread for wise - or foolish - cycling sayings.

One I like is: "There's a bike for every ride."

I reckon that's true, whatever ride I do I could envisage a more suitable bike than one of my three, if I had the choice of every bike available.

Another I've mentioned elsewhere is: "No one ever got fit riding a light bike."

Some truth in that, although I suppose you would get fit on a 7kg carbon roadie if you did enough miles.

My third starter contribution: "The only way to get fit is to do the hills."

That's another true one, you won't get fit bowling along on level ground with a tail wind.

Over to you.

1) "Time is miles."
2) "You're not here to enjoy yourselves, this is a cycle tour."

The one about no one getting fit by riding a light bike is nonsense; as with shorter or longer cranks a cyclist simply selects a gear that best matches their power output irrespective of slope, bike weight or crank length.

You get fitter by riding faster and harder and a lightweight bike encourages you to do just that, believe me.
