Chris,

I'd be interested in joining you for a day's ride out of Calais on my moulton. .....i'm sure we can work out a ride along one of the canals.....

FYI there is a lovely route out of Dieppe on L'Avenue Vert which follows an old railway line. http://www.voiesvertes.com/htm/detaille76diar_av1.htm

I discovered this a few years ago when some of us went over the "Dieppe raid" -it's beautifully paved and the old railway platforms and ticket offices are still there in places.

Just seen this.
There's a load of little canal-side roads inland from Calais if you head towards Ardres, Guines and places like that. Towards Boulogne along the coast road is quite nice, but may be a little hilly for your taste. Getting to Boulogne and back inside 5 hours is a bit of a big ask if you're on a tight schedule.
First thing to do is get the relevant Michelin map, or a French road atlas. Many of them are a workable scale for planning purposes.
