It's all about the aesthetics / tradition / expectation interface...B)

It looks a mess - as do the others. A Pinarello Prince looks 'odd'...

OK .. yes, it looks odd .. but there is no reason to despise it ! If it works, and people buy it and ride it .. where is the problem ?

Absolutely. I've just been reviewing a book for Velo Vision, (lovely, glossy photo book), and there was one a bit like the OP, from when suspension was just taking off, and they pointed out, it was just one way to do suspension, and it didn't happen to be the one that ended up being adopted widely. There are lots of things that are only the way they are because that happened to be the one that caught on.

Dangerous. Bike designs should have to be licensed to make sure abominations like this never hit the streets.

It's a large carbon strut working in shear - and carbon works nicely like this.
It's not dangerous at all.

What would you know about the stress properties of carbon, you only test it for a living... Really, you should hush up and let bonj tell us all about it...

Bikes are a bit more complex than the structures I test TBH. I'm normally dealing with cylinders and flat panels.
