I had a frame that we got from a tip, with "Apehanger" bars,one sided brakes,

Most kit was from wrecks, or from the LBS, and we built the machine under suoervsion to our own design and spec.....

If only my parents knew what they were starting!

The Raleigh Banana, or Kelloggs Pro Tour would have been my dream bikes back then, I think. I actually had a Striker, then a Grifter.

My first ever off was from the Striker, after hitting an obstacle whilst going too fast down a hill - cost me some teeth, that one.

For some weird and wonderful reason, my Raleigh 20. I used to deliver newspapers on it so I guess we went through a lot together! Crap handling though and definitely uncool at the time.

I wanted a chopper so my father, a sheet metal worker, made me one. Banana seat,ape hangers, 3 speed stick shift, painted a sparkly purple. It made up for the uncool 20! He ended up making a couple more to order.

I later had a 5 speed drop handled Raleigh; I guess that was my first serious bike and I used to ride miles for pleasure on that but my favourite has to be the 20.
