Someone's replaced the alloy forks with carbon ones, without cutting down the steerer tube. They've then stacked a steerer extender on top: http://www.parker-international.co....rrer=froogle&gclid=CLuR-YbTwbkCFebJtAodPRMApA. All of that gives a very upright riding position - presumably specifically for the seller.

The carbon fork doesn't have the necessary fixings for the front cantilever - hence the Ultegra brake. IIRC running road brakes through mountain bike levers is undesirable but not unsafe. The "suspension system" is a marketing gimmick for the saddle: http://www.amazon.com/Serfas-Suspen...000UO6LJA/ref=pd_sim_sg_3/176-0451741-7392953

I can well believe that it cost £800 new - £500 for the bike, plus £300 for the conversion.

Fair enough, but you can't really carry out a conversion like that and then expect someone else to cover the cost when you decide to sell it on, surely? Seller would have been better off keeping the original bits and restoring it to standard spec and then would have a better chance of selling it, but still not at that price IMHO.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
I suspect the seller is somewhat naive when it comes to bikes! The original bits have probably been recycled by whichever bike shop did the original conversion job.

Maybe you should follow your own advice., why would you send such a question to somebody, it's beyond belief.

Alan...
I gotta say, I agree. The seller obviously has problems with his wrists...he's said as much.
He's taken some extreme steps to try to be on a bike, which may or may not have worked for him, but chapeau for trying.

I think this is quite cool. The owner wanted to ride and had to thunk up a solution to a wrist , hand or arm issue.

Personally, I think the stem is too long and would have gone for a 70mm job, maybe a custom 75mm.

But it looks fun and different and is anyway just a bunch of bits that can be taken apart as easily as they were assembled.

If somebody around 5'4" wants a flat-bar road bike, this would not be a bad place to start if the starting bid was lower.

Chapue.... Shappoh..... Ciapeau..... HAT!! to the chap for thinking the thought and doing the work.
