How do you switch off the pointer hover and select

on an HP laptop with a touchpad.

I've never found out how, and it's a pain in the **s*. Twice in the last hour I've had my finger on the pad, the pointer's been on "quote" and suddenly I'm halfway to posting a reply!

you sure its hover and select and not the tap and select?

On most laptops you can plug in a USB wireless mouse. Makes life SO much easier, and you can forget the stupid trackpad system.

I am a big fan of track pads but hate the tap select on them so always disable this, however I do not know where it would be on a HP, probably in the mouse settings in control panel I expect.
