Go after the employers. How did Dennis Putz get insurance? Who employed Lopes? Who removed the magnet from his lorry when it was in the cops compound? Go after the employers, and the insurers.

The court heard that Putz, who had been drinking and was also using his mobile phone at the time of the fatal collision, had twice been jailed for previous driving offences.
The first of those sentences was in 1995, when he was imprisoned for six months after being convicted of reckless driving. Then, in 2003, he received another prison sentence following 16 ((sixteen) counts of driving without a licence.

there is no way Putz could have disclosed his record and got insurance. Absolutely no way. So Thames Materials have some difficult questions to answer. What would be key, as the comments note, is if the insurer unleashes the dogs of hell lawyers against the firm that employed Putz and make it clear that companies that play around with employing idiot drivers who inevitably kill someone will pay a heavy price. Shut these goons down.

Another Thames Materials driver:

On 7th December 2010 a laden Thames Materials Limited lorry was involved in a fatal collision with a London taxi carrying 3 Japanese businessmen near to Chiswick House, Chiswick. One of the passengers was killed. The lorry travelled through the central reservation of the dual carriageway. [6] The driver was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving, driving while unfit and possession of a controlled substance.[7]
