Am in Hamilton right next to route 74 ,pat not far from me i calculated from my house to lake district lolSo me and pat still cycle down

If it's anything like the Sustrans route from Callander to Pitlochry we'd better add another week!

IIRC the NCN74 follows the old A74. Bit boring but mainly decent surfaces.

I can come up with a route down from Carlisle, though getting to Grasmere without going on the A591 (will be rammed with traffic on a bank holiday weekend) would involve going over Kirkstone Pass

It does happen to pass a very nice little cafe and there are no really big hills until the pass. Which has a pub at the top of it

In all honesty, Hawkshead is way easier to get in and out of by bike than Grasmere. That would be my preferred base.

I was recommended the Greystoke cafe? Can't remember where it is though.
