What's the longest distance you've ever cycled in a single day, and what did you learn from the experience?

Barely over 600km within 24 hours. I learned that I didn’t want to do that again for quite a while. About 20 years in fact.

400k in just over 24hrs last summer, would have been under without the heat and mechanicals.

My best was 412 miles back in 2009. I don't think I'd beat that now.

My longest was 241.8km (150.25m) in 15h 05m total elapsed time (12h 40m pedalling time). Not sure I learnt anything from it.

After 14 years, this is the nearest I can remember the route:

A Whitstable night ride starting in Shepherds Bush and including excursions to train stations and beer emporia. A pitiful 92 miles. Fiona Kolbinger would not be impressed.

My furthest was a hilly 100 miles seven years ago in just over 9 hours cycling time, over 12 hours elapsed.

I learned three things:

1) I could actually do a century.

2) It was monotonous

3) Never to do it again

250 miles. Doncaster to London. I have done it a few times now. It is usually 230 but I included the distance from home to King's Cross Station to get the train to Doncaster, which arrives at midnight, then we head back home overnight.
We've had a break from doing the ride due to covid times but we ate planning a return to doing the ride again later this year

250 miles a few times. LEL2013, cycling from SE London to my parents in Lancashire and I’ve done the Doncaster to London ride mentioned above

Pretty sure 100 miles is my furthest. Done a few 100 mile Races with my local club. Some while ago now mind.
These days its more about the sights, the sounds and the enjoyment when its a pleasant day - than truly pushing myself per-se.

What did i learn from doing 100 miles at full-whack ? Nutrition / Hydration needs attention !

Just one imperial century in August 2019 just to say I'd done it. No desire to do another. I am not a long distance cyclist these days.

Although all the long rides i've done leave me barely stand up due to the pain in my knees

76 miles last year.

I learnt that I could do this kind of distance without problems if:

I eat, drink and rest along the ride.
My bike is comfortable.
I don't rush.
There are interesting things to see along the way.
