Why that, rather than a turbo? At least the turbo would be comfortable.

I find it comfortable enough. I can get in the same riding position on this machine as I can on my road bike. I find it less enjoyable than normal cycling on a fine day. It comes into it's own on bad weather days. I use it for a bit of fitness training and also it helps with a medical condition involving my knees. I am more comfortable using a exercise bike at home than going to a gym.
I have used a turbo in the past. They give a similar experience. I just prefer to use a dedicated piece of equipment in order to save wear and tear on the road bike.
