Old Peugeot Premiere (Possible Project)

Nice bikes to ride - here's my 1985 Premiere. I've had it from new - I remember it cost £90 back then.

It gets fitted with mudguards for the winter, and used as a commuter and Audax bike.

Easy job , it looks like your rear hub is a later style one so all you need is a spacer kit and cog and a tool to undo the locknut holding the cassette and tension on the dropouts .

Do it and you will have a nice single speed bike

Nothing stopping you from running big or small chain wheel then position rear sprocket of what ever size you decide spaced to suit .

I shall do some research, I haven’t had a chance to get out on it yet to see if it fits.

Whilst out on it just stick it into one gear at a time to get an idea what rings and sized sprocket you will need to cope with local terrain

Good plan, I’ve never ridden a single speed bike.

Get the gearing right to suit you and local terrain and it's great .
What you will need to try then is fixie built around a classic British frame

@EltonFrog messaged me earlier to ask if I’d like to take over the project, being project free at the moment I obviously jumped at the chance and we met earlier and it’s now home with me.

I’m going to lightly restore it, sell it and then donate the money back to the Windrush Project.

About an hour later I stripped it.

The only problem so far is that the crank set thread has been stripped so I wasn’t able to remove the chainset. Luckily the BB has absolutely no play so I’ll just leave it, the head bearings will need to be replaced but it doesn’t need much, just some cables, jockey wheels and a few consumables, I’ve got some spare tyres which I’ll fit and some other odds and sods like a better black seat which will improve it.

The chainset has come up well with some degreaser and wire wool

I’ve also removed some 30 year old stickers, cleaned the frame up and cut it back, so that’s enough for today, wheels will be next.
