Jane went in to surgery at 0830 this morning, once they'd verified that there wasn't too much swelling. Apparently too much in the ankle and they can't operate as they can't get the skin back together afterwards. The surgeon also discussed potential for blood clots that, from the legs, gravitate to the lungs. So Jane will be on a blood thinner immediately following op, obviously not earlier otherwise she'd bleed out.

Thanks for all the good wishes and I'll post up how surgery went later. Got to work now, but pretty hard to concentrate!!!

What an unfortunate accident! The really unfair thing is that it's not as if she can be full of bravado at having smashed her leg up while doing 40 mph which is a bit bad as most people usually have a good, dramatic story to tell about serious injuries. You'd better get her some chocs and flowers to cheer her up.

Hope everything goes well. My MiL broke her ankle last year and it's taken a long time to heal, mostly I think due to the inept local health authority. Swelling is and was a big issue though, hers was so bad they couldn't get a pot on it. It can't be nice having so much work done down there. All the best.

Oh dear that sounds awful MacB, hope everything goes well. Shame when a nice outing like that gets marred by an accident. Let us know how she gets on ;)

Just spoken to Jane, she's just come round from the anaesthetic all seems ok, will know more when speak to surgeon. She could be in for a week, depends on follow up x-rays etc.

Will trot along with the 3 MacB juniors plus minor list of required items at visiting time tonight.

Ow! Bad luck, and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Wierd, it sounds a bit like the mirror image of one of those accident where someone catapults down the road at 30 mph, and gets up without a scratch. Evil bad luck....

How old are the juniors? Old enough to swing into action as a well oiled home help service, or young enough to simply delight in having Long John Silver for a Mum for a while?:?:

Bit of both Arch, 8/10/13, the youngest is insisting he will cook and do the laundry for us:biggrin: They'll all muck in, but Jane expects some hilarity, the cast will be well decorated as well.

Ah, the classic diet of jam sandwiches and rice kripsy buns....:?:

Anyway, Jane sounds like she at least has a sense of humour about it, good on her!
