you've got to remember to pump, pump, pump every couple of seconds - keeping the pressure on for long periods of time doesn't allow the rim to cool off - and nothing wears out faster than a hot rim!

I should point out that it was a cheap old rim that I had, some weeks before, ridden for a few miles without an inner tube or tyre after a nasty blow out on the Elephant & Castle roundabout.:thumbsup:

When that happened to me, a long strip of rim came away, wrapped itself around the brake and stopped the bike dead, innertube appeared throught eh gap and exploded like a rifle shot.

Fortunately i was doing 1 mph over Kingston Bridge at the time not the 30mph downhill i had been doing 15 minutes previously
